We are proud to bring to your attention that our K12 grant, the Academic Oncologist Training Grant, has been funded and we are now looking for candidates for next year (06/07).

The Academic Oncologist Training Program is a two year minimum program which will prepare academic medical, surgical and radiation oncologists in clinical oncology research with an emphasis on translational research. This comprehensive training program provides 75% protected time to develop clinical oncology research specialists who are familiar with all aspects of a specific disease site and who will be well suited to develop a combined modality, translational approach to clinical research.

Trainees will take a core curriculum in seven core areas necessary for successful career advancement in academic clinical research (biostatistics and study design, ethics, leadership, research, presenting and teaching, basic science, and scientific writing). $30,000/year for up to four years will be provided for tuition, meetings, research, and other educational expenses. This is an outstanding opportunity for clinical investigators to develop a translational research career in a specific tumor site with guaranteed protected time.

Candidates will include physicians who have completed their medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, pediatric oncology or surgical oncology training programs. Internists who have completed subspecialty training and have an interest in cancer research will also be eligible, as will PhD's who are interested in developing a more translational and clinical approach to their research.
