The UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) is developing the Clinical Imaging shared service to facilitate the incorporation of clinical imaging into
cancer clinical trials and engage the radiologists as co-investigators in these efforts. Clinical Imaging staff act as a
liaison between the Cancer Center and the Department of Radiology to assess the requirements for an
infrastructure to organize and coordinate the interface between clinical imaging research and clinical research.
The result of this infrastructure has increased the capacity to provide innovative
imaging for UWCCC clinical trials and provided a foundation for a developing shared service that will continue
the progress that has been made.
Services that will be provided include:
- Protocol development.
Link oncologists with radiologists whose specialty coincides with the proposed imaging modality.
Participate in preparation of draft protocol ensuring feasibility within the radiology working environment.
Establish research costs for imaging research elements of the protocol.
- Radiology Activation
Ensure incorporation of the imaging research into the radiology working environment. Prepare study-specific imaging request forms. Conduct in-service for radiology staff to ensure seamless incorporation into the working environment.
- Coordinate image-guided biopsies
Review scans with a radiologist to indentify the biopsiable lesion. Oversee the biopsy to ensure protocol adherence
- Coordinate CT, PET and functional MRI scans
Review scans with a radiologist to indentify the biopsiable lesion. Oversee the biopsy to ensure protocol adherence. Oversee the scanning of phantoms for quality assurance
- Develop and manage the Imaging Shared Service budget
