Cancer Survivor’s Voice
North Central Spirit of EAGLES, in partnership with interested Tribes, Dr. Tracy Schroepfer, UW School of Social Work, and Dr. Anne Traynor, UWCCC, developed and implemented a quality of cancer care pilot study supported through a Lung Pre-SPORE project sponsored by UWCCC. The self-report survey of AIAN cancer survivors was distributed at an American Indian health conference, and by two tribes to survivors known to them. Results and currently being analyzed and discussed with participating tribes, and once completed and approved, will be released to the public.
NARCH - Improving American Indian Cancer Surveillance and Data Reporting in Wisconsin
We are nearing conclusion of our four-year pilot project, Improving American Indian Cancer Surveillance and Data Reporting in Wisconsin, funded through Great Lakes Native American Research Center for Health. Leveraged through our Spirit of EAGLES program, this community-based research project seeks to improve the completeness and accuracy of cancer data and its use by Tribal and Urban Indian Clinics in Wisconsin. The project includes the development of clinic-based cancer profiles, reporting of cancer cases to the Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System, researching current Wisconsin American Indian cancer trends, and engaging all participants in a learning process on community-based research.
