| Hartwell Foundation Individual Biomedical
Research Award |
| |
The Hartwell
Foundation Individual Biomedical Research Award will provide financial support to stimulate discovery
in early-stage biomedical research that will benefit
children.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison has been
selected as one of the 10 research institutions to compete
for this award.
The Hartwell Foundation requires each
selected research institution to hold an internal
open competition to identify four nominees, based
upon application requirements set forth by the Foundation.
- Proposals must describe early-stage, innovative,
and cutting-edge biomedical research that will benefit
children.
- The
research proposed may not have had significant funding
from outside sources.
- Proposals should be based on
sound science and should "make a difference".
- The applicant should discuss thoroughly the ideas
of innovation, collaboration, the deployment of technology
to address the problem, and the significance or outcomes
of the proposed research.
- Awards are $100K/year
for 3 years (no indirect costs)
- All recipients MUST
be US citizens who hold a full-time appointment and
be able to serve as PI.
- Proposals should be from appropriate
areas of basic and applied life sciences, principally
limited to medicine and biomedical engineering, and
consistent with the values of the Hartwell Foundation.
- Proposals should reflect relevance in terms of potential
benefits to children.
The Foundation will only consider
proposals in biomedical research. The Foundation will
not consider, for example, research in social science,
psychology, ecology, environmental impacts, anthropology,
or botany.
Candidates must submit the proposal in
the format specified by the Hartwell Foundation, including
the lay summary, due to the short turnaround time
for final submissions.

Kimmel Scholar Award
Each year the Kimmel Foundation expects to select up to
ten grant recipients who will receive $100,000 per year
for two years. Qualified applicants must hold an M.D.,
Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree and must perform
research in an American not-for-profit institution during
the period of Kimmel Foundation support.
The Kimmel
Foundation is seeking accomplished young investigators
dedicated to a career in cancer research. Applications
are limited to those who achieved the equivalent rank
of Assistant Professor on or after July, 2005. However,
physicians who have both clinical and research responsibility
are eligible if appointed on or after July, 2004. These
awards are designed for researchers who do not yet have
their own R01 funding. Applicants will be judged on
the basis of quality of prior work, research proposed
and letters of support. Funding of awards will be subject
to execution of binding agreements setting forth terms
and conditions under which scholarships will be provided.
Applicants for 2009 awards will be notified by mid-April,
2009.
