Remington named Associate Dean for Public Health
April 8, 2009
MADISON—Dean Robert Golden has announced that Pat Remington, MD, MPH, will become the inaugural Associate Dean for Public Health in the School of Medicine and Public Health, effective July 1, 2009.
"This position is vital to our School’s historic transformation into the first ever integrated school of medicine AND public health", says Dean Golden.
"Following a national search, which attracted candidates from across the county, it became clear that Dr. Remington’s background and experience make him particularly well-suited for this assignment."
After obtaining his undergraduate and medical degrees here at UW-Madison, Pat completed an internship in Seattle, Washington, a residency in Preventive Medicine at the Centers for Disease Control, followed by an MPH degree from the University of Minnesota. He worked at the CDC and in the Bureau of Public Health at the Wisconsin Division of Health in several positions and assignments, prior to joining our faculty in the Department of Population Health Sciences in 1997. Remington, a UW Carbone Cancer Center member, is also the co-leader of the Cancer Control Research Program.
Remington has served with distinction in various leadership roles in our school, including Founding Director of our Master of Public Health Program and Director of the UW Population Health Institute. Dr. Remington has received numerous extramural grants and awards, and the Wisconsin Public Health Association named him the “Public Health Researcher of the Year” in 2007.
In his new position, Dr. Remington will play a major leadership role in the implementation of the strategic plan for our school’s transformation. His background in the practice of public health and in academic medicine, coupled with his outstanding reputation in Wisconsin’s public health community, will serve him (and the School of Medicine and Public Health) well as he leads the integration of public health into all of our missions. |
