Major Road Construction Near UW Hospital and Clinics
May 2009
MADISON - The City of Madison has announced a road reconstruction project that will soon affect routes leading to UW Hospital and Clinics and Carbone Cancer Center.
Those who travel westbound through the isthmus on Gorham St. and University Ave. have begun to see signs of the construction which started in mid March.
From that date through the summer, the city plans to repave Gorham St., University Ave. and Campus Dr. from east of Broom St. to Shorewood Blvd. (See map below.)
The project will happen in stages:
During the project there will be lane and/or ramp closures and intermittent traffic delays. The City of Madison has indicated it will use signage to direct traffic to alternate routes when possible, especially near UW Hospital and American Family Children's Hospital.
The City has also created a web site at cityofmadison.com, where you will find a map of the construction zone and a brief description of the project. As the project progresses, updates will be posted on the city's site.
During these periods of heavy constructions patients would be wise to budget extra travel time on their way to and from UW Hospital and Clinics and the Carbone Cancer Center.
